My entry for the 'Semi Finals Senior Emotional Contrast Challenge' of SoYouThinkYouCanVid.
Category: love, fear, regret
Quote at the end of video by Ben Edlund.
Judges Note:
Here's a brief background on Castiel, in case you're unfamiliar with Supernatural (spoilers!):
Castiel is an angel that pulls the hunter Dean Winchester from hell on orders from heaven. He is tasked with the duty of keeping an eye on Dean and making sure heaven's agenda goes according to plan. When we are first introduced to him, he carries himself as a soldier with a fierce sense of duty and a high regard for his Father's will. However, as he spends more time with his charge (Dean), he begins to feel doubt as to whether the orders he's receiving from the higher-ups are truly just. He eventually decides to rebel against heaven and join the Winchesters in their fight for free will. Things take a dark turn in Season 6 when Cas consorts with a demon behind the Winchesters' back in an effort to avert the apocalypse from occurring again. His actions lead to him unwittingly unleashing a terrible evil unto the world and greatly harming himself and the humans he cares about in the process.
In this video I wanted to tell Castiel's story in a way that attempted to highlight the specific emotions I was assigned to for this challenge: love, fear, and regret. As opposed to following a strictly chronological way of storytelling in the video, I chose to weave in and out of his timeline to better display the emotional significance of his actions and choices.
The first verse is black and white to signify the angel's initial rigid sense of right and wrong. He's rather emotionless and cold, yet shows curiosity. As it suddenly switches to color with the chorus, we see that his interactions with the world and with Dean, in particular, have brought a new light to the way he sees things. Dean teaches him of love and free will, and Castiel rebels from heaven and goes on to take matters into his own hands, over time. However, his actions soon cause feelings of doubt and a fear of failure to his own cause. Thus, the color becomes more and more muted. The very beginning and end of the video switch between color and black and white to signify his regret and turmoil his actions have brought on himself and the people he loves.

Vidding this was certainly an interesting experience, to say the least. I was sick for the majority of the two weeks or so I worked on it and the drugs I was taking for it made me feel pretty loopy. There were periods where I had extreme focus and others I'd spend staring off into space for minutes on end. lol, I don't think it impacted my editing all that much but it sure skewed the process.
MUCHAS GRACIAS TO MY LOVELY BETA, KELLY (xEternallyDazzled). I owe you big time.
This was incredible! What did you use to edit it? You should make a tutorial!

@ozit Thanks! I use Sony Vegas Pro 8.0 to make all my videos. I don't make tutorials, but I'm sure if you searched here on yt you'd find some really helpful ones.
