They say Peter Tork had a party and Jimi Hendrix was there high off his ass, standing there without moving.

This is what spoils music these days. Does nobody notice that those of us who play live enjoy all sorts of music when it is well-played. Hendrix appreciated professionalism and looked beyond the "manufactured" hype, as did Mike Nesmith.

Respond to this video... What are you talking about? I know that, everyone knows that. I also know you need to be more civil.

@ricrefrat by "garage band" I meant that they weren't as good as a band who formed and worked together and developed their sound, they were just sort of lumped together by casting. They sounded good for being thrown together to do a tv show, but not Beatles, or Rolling Stones level good. I know how they got started, and probably know more about them than most of the people posting here. I also know that they tightened up later on and were pretty damned good after a while.

@roadrun64 They were on the same label.

Respond to this video.Davey Jones was on the Ed Sullivan Show the first time the Beatles appeared. He did a song from the play Oliver Twist I believe.

@VelvetCyberpunk The Monkees auditioned separately for a TV show, they were not a band. Wake Up.

@MrBEB123 Nesmith was a better guitarist than Hendrix, you must be sniffing White Out!

It was a time in history and the music can take you back to a simpler time. The Monkeys and Hendrix can both do this. However, there is no comparison when it comes to playing guitar. No one in his day could play anywhere near Jimmy Hendrix. That fuzz box was one of many tools used by a musical genesis.

@MrBEB123 Listen to the acoustic version of hear my train a comin and then tell me hendrix is all sound effects. you shouldnt talk when you have no idea what your talking about
Why are people hating on The Monkees. Jimi Hendrix actually was friends with them. This sound strange to people these days because music is so commercialized and they only act in the last 30 years have been package to tour with the same type of music. Back then groups would tour with other acts that you would never think are in the same genre. Black Sabbath one time opened for an folk musician, though I can't remember who it was. Anyways, the Monkees actually have good music.
