Keweenaw County, Michigan 11/20/2011: I tracked 4 wolves on the evening of the 19th. Went back the next morning and found a freshly killed and consumed 6 pt buck. The scene was quite awesome and gruesome. This kill was one of two locations found during that weekend. The impact on the localized deer herd has been debated, but IMO it is unquestionable that the presence of the wolves is having a profound impact on the deer herd. People all across Keweenaw and Houghton county remarked on the high volume of wolf activity noted recently and more so this deer-season. This was a strong healthy appearing buck that I had decided to "Let it go...let it grow" just two days before.
