The University of Kansas Chamber Choir sings A Boy and A Girl, they are conducted by Eric Whitacre, this concert takes place in the Lied Center of Kansas.

"A Night With Eric Whitacre"

A Boy and A Girl
Stretched out on the grass
a boy and a girl.
Savoring their oranges, givign their kisses
likes waves scdhangng foam.

Stretched out on the beach
a boy and a girl.
Savoring thier limes, giving their kisses
like clouds exchanging foam.

Stretched out underground
a boy and girl.
Saying nothing, never kissing
giving silence for slince.

Poem by, Octavio Paz
Translation by Muriel Rukeyser

  • ... is it just me or does it seem like they're off pitch near the end? I'm not trying to be a jerk, I LOVE Eric Whitacre. I'm just wondering if I'm the only one who thought that. I could be totally wrong.

  • my chamber group at my high school is doing this song. it makes me want cry

  • My Choir is singing Animal Crackers...which is also by him..and it is a lot different than this song...but also very good of course...

  • He really have his own directing ways...I have never seen something so imaginative and...unclear (?) I love his music anyway!

  • haha. I know you're not saying stroope is a bad conductor. He was my conductor for all state choir last year. he was amazing. he is a very very clear conductor. especially when it comes to more rhythmically challenging peices (not for myself) like Kalinda and Twa Tanbou by Guillaume.

  • in the music world there is always composers and performers. the performers arnt great writers so thats why they emphasize on performing and composers know that they arnt the best performer so thats why the study more on writing. its always have been that way. i know i suck at performing but i can write good stuff.

  • A great conductor Whitacre is not. He is the best at composing however. By the way, to the guy who wants to sing for Lauridsen, know that he is a giant tool who can't stop rewriting the same piece. That being said, most composers are lousy conductors (I'm talking about you, Stroope). But most conductors are lousy composers (Craig Hella Johnson aside).

  • duh.
