  • This is an example of bands, where the bass player is a FULL member and not only background musician. The first band with such a kind of bass player, I listened to in the late 60s/early 70s was YES with Chris Squire.

  • glad u appreciate, thanks.

  • Their working on theit fourth album as we speak. Saw them 3 times in New Jersey in the 70's. Great group ! Hope they can get Peter Banks[ if he's alive] and Mike Hough. That would be great, But as long if it's Ray and Collin I won't mind. 36 years is a long time to wait for a fourth album. Dead Ahead bitch !!

  • @ProfessorMystic - Peter Banks was the original Yes guitarist and established much of their sound before leaving and joining Flash bassist Ray Bennett who also played in his first band with Yes drummer Bill Bruford. Contemporaries all. Peter deserves more credit than is generally known for Yes' sound and initial success. Colin sang bass until he heard Jon. Then he got some tight pants, and voila!! Ha! Flash has reunited without Pete; that should eliminate some of the comparisons.

  • It sounds like this band wanted to be another version of Yes. Pretty good job though -- I like the bass and drums especially. The guitar riffs sound fast but they are not complex, mostly repetition or scales. The singer sounds almost exactly like Jon Anderson's early days -- I don't know he is trying to sound that way or not. Too bad they did not get their own sound -- they could have been good.

  • Love this band, have all the albums, very outstanding vocals....the melodies are stuck in your head! I have to say the album I cant get enmough of is:

Out Of Our Hands (1973) These songs kick Ass!...:)

    Open Sky

    None The Wiser

    Farewell Number One

    Dead Ahead

    The Bishop

    Manhattan Morning

  • I have the flash in the can album and trying to post it here, but having some problems. Just wanted to share this excellent example of early 70's rock. Perhaps someone could help with this. Any comments much appreciated...

  • @1qaz2wsx3edc5753 - That's right about the "Hocus Pocus" riff - Flash toured with Focus in '72 and Jan Akkerman played on Pete's solo album "Two Sides of Peter Banks". I shared your comments with Ray Bennett - much appreciated - and hope to get more video of Flash on youtube soon. Get the latest Flash news on reverbnationdotcom/flashbennettcarter.

  • thanks for clearing up the mystery of the "Hocus Pocus" riff for me!

  • @1qaz2wsx3edc5753 Funny that I see your comment, I was wondering the same! I looked up this band because of Peter Banks' connection to Yes, but also read he was a good friend of Jan Akkerman of Focus back then. So that explains a bit..."Hocus Pocus" was released a year earlier than this song, but still...yet my guess would be it is a tip of the hat towards a friend.

  • rainy day music, scratchy lp enhances charm !
