I was raised in Houston, TX, and am living there now...It is a shame to see my city treating animals this way. I stopped going to the zoo a long time ago, but I didn't know this kind of cruelty is happening here right NOW. My little sister and mother go to the zoo all the time and I don't say anything, because I know it's fun for kids...But maybe mom will think twice about going to the zoo after I show her this... ?
yeah... if that were true, how could you explain the fact that elephants in the wild DON'T sway? it's neurotic, abnormal behavior. it happens to elephants in captivity who can't walk as much per day as they innately require. AKA zoos should not keep elephants.
Yes, that's right. I was at the zoo today. Male elephants are solitary, and the zoo staff periodically sends in a female so he can relieve his natural urges.
...male Asian elephants are generally solitary. And elephants sway the same way some people jiggle their legs; it's not a sign that he's sad or lonely. Besides, periodically they put one of the females with Thai so he gets some company. But he wouldn't want to be in close quarters with Shanti, Mac, and Methai all the time. He's not sad, for goodness's sake.
What an uninspiring habitat this is! Poor bull.
