The TVR in Nancy, also seen are brief views of the GLT prototype in Belgium and the TVR in Caen.

The GLT concept was for an electric bus which can also use a central guiding rail to operate as a self-steering guided bus / rubber tyred tram.

In Nancy the TVR operates as an upgrade to their pre-existing trolleybus system, with them working as normal driver-steered trolleybuses for some of the time and as self-steering guided trolleybuses at other times.

As with many types of trolleybus they also have an auxilliary diesel engine so that if neeed be they can travel on roads which are away from the overhead wires.

Also look out for the other GLT / TVR films showing the prototype and Caen versions.

Filmed in 2003.

  • Nice!

At 4:09, it looks like a car almost drove through a red light or something and the bus operator gave him a quick toot of the horn to get the vehicles driver to stop. Then he honks back at the bus!! Odd...

  • Is everybody deaf???? it's much more noisy than a normal modern trams,. it's like airplane noise

  • when in tram mode there is extra noise from the guidance system.

  • yes there was a moment where a car tried to travel through red traffic signals and smash with one of the buses. But the bus driver gave a blast of the horn to stop the car.

  • wow!

  • Alex, we nearly had these in Bristol - it was proposed but as ever funding was a problem.

  • I like it very.

  • that's a shame : (

It would be cool just to see one in real life!

  • maybe - but I did not see it do this.

trolleybuses only dewire if something is not right - such as a bent trolleypole, damage to wires, or old fashioned style wiring which requires buses to slow down.

  • Does the trolley-bus mode of TVR ever dewire like a conventional trolley-bus?
