When the name, Meco happens to be mentioned. Many, who know of him or of his music, will quickly respond--"The Wizard Of Oz". Not of the classic movie...But the now classic, Disco album, The Wizard Of Oz, from 1978. Though it was not his first album. That belonged to, Star Wars And Other Galactic Funk from 1977--spawning the hit single, Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band, which charted number one on Billboard's Hot 100 of that year. Nor was it his second album. That goes to; Encounters Of Every Kind. Which was also released in 1977 and scored another hit single; Theme From Close Encounters, placing it on Billboard's Hot 100 at number 25 in 1978.

No...The Wizard Of Oz, was Meco's third album that also gave birth to a hit single, Over The Rainbow/We're Off To See The Wizard, charting also in 1978, on Billboard's Hot 100 at number 35. And it's The Wizard Of Oz, that has many claiming to this day, as Meco's best and most popular out of all his albums. Not to mention, the most sought after. There was a time, when many Disco-Tech's, constantly played the single and the dance floor was always filled with gyrating bodies putting their own choreography to the beat and having a blast doing so.

After rediscovering this recording, I couldn't help, but have a bit of fun mixing clips from the all time, perennial classic film, and one of my favorites; The Wizard Of Oz, to Meco's 1978 hit, Over The Rainbow/We're Off To See The Wizard Medley. Which, like the 1939 movie...Never seems to age with time.
