@savedsallow It's part of Hartley's directorial style. All of his movies feel like this. It's like watching a David Mamet or Fassbinder film - you just sort of have to go along with it. It's not supposed to be natural.

@savedsallow They are talking fast, but it almost seems intentional. Anything that distracts and makes you think they are acting is not good though.

This is what the Catcher in the Rye was talking about. The speed of which the actors respond to each other is too fast. It's not enough time to actually think about what they're going to say.. You can tell it is acting.

@savedsallow They're not responding so fast that *we* don't know what they are going to say, they're responding so fast that *they* don't know what they are going to say. The tone of their unfiltered answers reveals things about them in much the same way the tone of a bell is revealed when it is struck. The most annoying and most interesting people I know (two mostly distinct groups) talk this way - they assume those around them are bright enough to handle the high bandwidth and keep up.
