The Japanese have a horrendous colonialist, genocidal and discriminatory history, yet there is no global effort to displace the indigenous Japanese. Why is the same not so with Europeans? Why are Japanese granted the right to self-determination, yet not those of Western nations?

My whole point to Andagii about my freind stationed in Korea is that their is a big double standard between Westerners going to non western countries and non westerners comming here. They don't seem to care about learning the about the history or culture, or even the language in many cases. If we say anything we are racist but going oversease for us is a different sotry.

@andagii In most cases your correct, but this guy went outside of military areas and made a true point to "Fit in" with the locals and un derstand their culter, traditions, history, language. I work with this guy and he will go off about his time in Korea or knowledge of Asian culture quite a bit. Something I see very few foreigners do in the U.S. In other words, he was an exeption to your typical military guy just assined in Korea.
