Immediately after September 11, 2001 life, as we knew it just one day before, changed forever. While the loss of so many innocent people, the suffering of their families and friends and the sacrifices of the brave men & women who were our first responders are paramount in our hearts and minds, there were others who, in their own way, helped us individually and collectively to regain and rebuild our lives.

While spending hundreds of hours working as associate producer, editor and sound recording engineer on the A&E BIO Special "When Pop Culture Saved America" I found myself on more than one occasion weeping while remembering the days, weeks and months immediately following that horrific day.

"When did you know it was time to get back to work, back to play, back to living a normal life?" was the question being responded to by over 70 media personalities.

Reading the transcripts and listening to their responses over a period of about 4 weeks, I found myself writing "IT WAS TIME" in about 15 minutes.

While I believe it is one of the best and most meaningful songs I've ever written, and while the beautiful arrangement by my friend Dave Fields easily reflected what was in my mind and heart when I wrote it, it is the emotionally stirring and extraordinary performance of my wife Liz, whose voice I believe is one of the most beautiful instruments you will ever hear, that completes the song.
I wrote the song reflecting the way I felt ... but the song was meant for Liz to sing.

I sincerely hope you enjoy the song.
