You're confusing single-thread speed with total compute power. The new bulldozer is significantly more powerful than the 1100t and regularly defeats the latest i5 and sometimes the i7.

Claiming that 4 physical/ 4 virtual cores are more powerful than 8 slightly less powerful cores in multithreaded tasks is demonstrably false.

Again, we are purchasing multi-core cpus for their multithreaded potential. It's obvious that threading and core density is the future.

    Pure ignorance.

"defeats the latest i5 and sometimes (no intel compilers used) and the i7" yes that without IGP but a FX 8350 with IGP GPGPU / larabee-tec regularly defeats the i7 and i5 looks like a modern 8080 :-D.

AMD FX 8350 can be called a true Quad Core processor, But as you should not forget that every legacy core (C2D/C2Q/1stGen i5/i7/Phen/PhenII) had 128 bit FPU (Dual 64 bit packet size at a time), but contemporary cores now have been built with 256 bit FPU (Dual128 bit FPU aka Intel AVX/AMD FMA instruction sets), this means today's Floating point and Integer performance has theoretically doubled Per Cycle, This is what matters. Though today there are not many apps that supports these extension

Stop making this shit, AMD. Make a better CPU !!! The current vishera can't even beat phenom II X6 with the same clock. We want phenom III X8 built in 22 nm process.

I am mostly a gamer, my first 5 PC´s were Intel, i had 3 different AM3 CPU´s in this motherboard an AthlonIIx2 240, an PhenomIIx4 810 and just recently an PhenomIIx4 965, they all OC like crazy in Stock and they were all VERY cheap and nice to use same socket, but it´s time to move on into a Intel based CPU since they are marginally faster on games due to most games being optimized for Single Threaded... the truth is Intel is MUCH FASTER in both Single and Multi Threaded, depends on your needs.

Ok, fair enough and agreed. Have you tested out the 12.11 performance drivers yet? I'm just in a bad mood today and tired of people trying to argue that single thread performance is all that matters with multi-core cpus.
