Day 18 of the chickadees nest build. Female is now staying in the box to brood the eggs and being fed by the male. 7 eggs visible in the nest.

  • That looks so cozy, it makes me wish I was a chickadee! What is the mother flying up for? Insects that get right into the birdhouse?

  • @issyvoo2 Hi, It's the male bringing her food in the box. This is common, while the female is incubating the male will bring her food so she can stay with the eggs.

  • Wow again! The most eggs I've seen in a nest was 3! Those chickadees sure have their work cut out for them:D

  • Yes they do. Of course having a mealworm feeder 20 feet away isn't gonna hurt.

    :o)

    Interesting note is that these chickadees were eating mainly sunflower seeds the whole winter. Now their primary diet seems to be insects.
