The Jonathan Hock documentary "Through the Fire" tracks the Coney Island product's evolution from high school phenom to NBA lottery pick. Along the way, Telfair contemplates a scholarship offer from Rick Pitino at the University of Louisville, struggles with the violence of his Brooklyn neighborhood and consumes himself with the desire to get his family out of the projects.

Having seen cousin and NBA star Stephon Marbury make it, Telfair knows big league dreams are within reach. However, Telfair's greatest source of inspiration is his older brother Jamel Thomas, who serves as a cautionary tale of just how elusive an NBA career can be.

  • @TheKathy78 He was hyped up too much. There was no doubt that he was good and I'm sure a couple of years in college would have made him great, but he was not ready for the NBA at the time.

  • I feel sorry for Louisville. They gave so much to Telfair and he STILL went to the NBA. When all those Louisville fans had their T-Shirts and we're so happy, it just got me pissed. I don't blame him for wanting to be in the NBA, but when it comes to the point where a team let's you play in their court, sleep in their dorms, have scores of fans at their feet... just play for them. It's the right thing to do. He was good. He could've been great if he went to Louisville.

  • mannnnn he woulda been SO GOOD if he went to Louisville playin under rick pitino.

  • Niggas Dont play Scrabble CTFU!!!!

  • @JW2K3 hes a bum

  • 4:28 "damn son i would pass my classes" LOL

  • Pretty fucked up to take advantage of louisville's hospitality like that.

If you're going to make the leap, make it, dont string out a team and a coach and take away their recruiting time and visits....

As with alot of prep kids he just blew by people in hs and needed to work on his j. alot. That said, i like the kid and wouldve taken the money in his shoes

  • "once its over its over"

  • @TheKathy78 yea the hyped him 2 much.. He wasn't ready 4 the NBA.. They kinda fucked up his career and potential

  • Do u think ESPN hyped him too much to think he was ready for the NBA? This was the time when HS kids were still going pro.
