Tingbæk kalkmine is a now closed limestone mine near the small town of Rebild in northern Jutland. During the winter, bats stay inside the mine at night. This was recorded on the 4th of July and the music and candle lights only come out on this day.

The instrument played is called a lur:

The American independence day is celebrated in the hills of Rebild each year on the 4th of July. Apparently, this is the largest celebration outside the USA.

  • As usual -- magnificent images!

As the great-great-great-great Grandson of a man who served under the command of Washington from 1776 to 1779 -- I'm allowed to say -- OUR THANKS AND GREETINGS TO OUR FELLOW REVOLUTIONARIES IN THE HILLS OF REBILD!

  • @drewnetwork :) I believe most Danes came after the Civil War but I'm sure they appreciate your words none the less... Quite a few Danish Americans took part in the 4th of July celebration - more from that later...
