*UPDATE 1/2011* Just wanted to advise that folks get the extended warranty offered with this machine to extend the warranty services out to 4 years. I say this because on 12/17/2010, approximately 4 days beyond the end date of a 2 year warranty, the drain mechanism fouled and had to be replaced. Thankfully, we spent the $100 or so on the 4 year extended warranty when we bought it, so the repair could be made no problemo. So, we still love our machine TONS and we're not sad that we cheaped out and skipped the extended warranty.
Be wise, friends - get the warranty.

I'll walk you through a full wash and dry cycle of this machine to show that, despite some feedback online, it does, in fact, wash well, dry completely and not *take forever* as some people have claimed.

To be fair, these people may like waiting around to move wet clothes from the washer to the dryer after 45 minutes, and may miss that personal connection with their machines, but I do not.

Also, my washer will sing a song.

  • Hi,

I also have a LG not a combo but regular washer. I'm wondering if you really needed the service call. With mine only a couple times did the machine not drain, only b/c the load was too bulky or off-balance (I put in two big pillows along w/ a down comforter) so the machine would sporatically turn but wouldn't count down on time. Another culprit could be the drain hose is higher than the recommended level than what's suggested in the manual.

  • @susieq560 Actually, yeah. There was a burned out circuit in the motherboard. Though I'm definitely looking into this drain hose situation. That sounds promising.

  • I believe that your machine has the "Energy star" logo. I find that humorous considering it takes four hours to wash and dry, when a conventional washer dryer set takes an hour and twenty minutes. If your happy with it, that's all that counts.

  • @1967Chrisjones Well, let's not put a ton of stock in the whole "Energy Star" thing. While it's a nice to have, our focus with this machine was the amount of space we were going to gain back by losing a machine in the room and the convenience of being able to wash clothes all the way through the dry cycle during the week while we're at work.

  • Hahahah im cracking up your presentation was awsome me and my bf are going to look for this washer even though it is over two years old. We have a basement door and stairs that can't take a regular washer and have a portable washer and dryer in the kitchen. This makes it so that we can buy this one and only have one thank you very much.

  • @kenjetsu1981 It looks like they have a newer model (LG WM3987HW) that's actually less expensive than ours was (though not by much - it's still $1,600). I haven't tried it (obviously), *but if LG sends me one*, I'll be happy to review it and post a new video ;)

Meanwhile, might be a good one to check out. And then you can have your kitchen back! That'll be rad, I suspect.

This machine actually generates electricity and only runs on 12amps. Less than your hair dryer~

To prove my statement, unplug the machine open the door and spin the drum by hand(as fast as you can).

I've had this machine since 2006 and have not seen any spikes on my electric bill.

    Makes me smile =)

  • @finnyknits It is cool that it washes and dries as well, and if it makes life easier, kudos. Cheers!

  • Thanks for the video....just curious with the following question: How high up on your wall is the water pipe used to exit used water from your LG WM3987HW?? Saw another "you tube" video advising if the water outlet pipe is too high, the water has trouble exiting the water hose and machine causing the clothes remain damp even after the dryer cycle? Please state the number of inches from floor to location on wall for the exit water pipe. Really would appreciate your advice. Thanks kindly.

  • Con't.

Quick fix: While machine is still on (no need to pause it) go to the drain filter area and drain the hose or readjust the drain hose on back the machine if needed. Doing one or both will kick the machine back to normal. ; )

    Oh and nice video btw.

  • @finnyknits For whatever reason, YouTube isn't allowing me to reply with a link, but there's another LG model (LG WM3987HW) that looks like it's the newest version of my model. Hope that helps.
