You go to the Solomons Museum and get a permit. Nothing live of course, so no problem with Sols or Aust customs.

not very much i think. its made in 1942 by a smith in the Sendai district. a friend has a Japanese Generals sword, and the blade on that is in the 1630s.
I love my sword because its not only from the Canal, but was picked up by a native on THIN RED LINE in 1945, down a slope near 3 skeletons. The blade is a bit pitted, but still good.

@canal4295 Now that is special, to find a katana near 3 skeletons. The Katana was considerd the highest souvenir a man in service could find.

the guy I got this from bought it from the villager in the 1960s. he was using it to cut grass around his hut. there is a steep slope near hill 52, and the accounts say some Japanese did commit suicide by jumping off. I guess it would have been picked up in 1943 if it had been more accesible. i think its a NCO sword. I also got a bayonet picked up at Kokumbona from him.
