Translation (4/3...erh) "There is for example a program by the NASA with this Skylab, eh… space-shuttle, where they maybe once take along biologists and people, who try out new technical methods in outer space. I would like to join with a camera, just because it's not easy anymore to find what, eh… represents the translucency of images, that what was once. I would go anywhere."
Translation (3/3) "And I would never complain, that for example it's sometimes difficult, that one has to - let's say - climb 8000m up a high mountain to still get images that are clear and transparent (or: translucent). Here, here's hardly anything possible. You therefore really have to search. I would even fly to Mars or to Saturn with the next rocket that I could board. "
Translation (2/3) "Naturally very often this is connected to risks and these I would never avoid, and I just see that there are only so few people in the world today who would really dare to take a risk for (sic) the need that we have, eh… which is to have not enough adequate images. We absolutely need images that match our level of civilization and our inner 'deepest'. And… therefore one has to go right into the middle of the war or to wherever it might be necessary."
Translation (1/3) "It's very easily (said) like this: there are just few images (left). So, when you're looking out of here: it's all completely clutteres (with buildings). One therefore has to dig like an… like an archaeologist with a spade and one has to, eh… one has to watch out to find something out (sic) of this "offended landscape". "
Well that´s too bad. I go through the trouble of finding the subs, stripping out the timing and line breaks and posting them and for whatever reason it gets flagged as spam. This is an important clip of Herzog from an equally important documentary called Tokyo-Ga that for some reason has no other clips up. I´ll probably have to just go ahead and upload a captioned version of it myself.
We need pure and absolute images that reflect our civilization as whole and our own deep inner voices. We need to fight to secure these images, and we should do it now. I don't complain enough how hard it is. For example, I'd have to climb an 8,000 meter high mountain if I wanted to find images that are clean, pure, and transparent. I can't do that here anymore. If I really wanted to search for it, I'd have to go to Mars or Saturn if I could hop on the next space shuttle.
For example, NASA has a program to build a SKYLAB space laboratory for scientists and biologists and people testing new technology and tools I want to go up there with a film camera. It's too hard to find transparent and pure images here on Earth that represent this present time. I'll go wherever necessary to find it."
