BS It's easy to get on the island. There isn't much there though.

There is no access for tourists to Devil´s Island due to the strong current, but you can visit the other two islands, Royale and St. Joseph, which also are much more interesting.

Did the government prevent you from going on the island? If so, just because it was too dangerous? Umm, what is there to hide?

Why didn't you say why you couldn't get there? A journalist managed to get on it (google GUARDIAN DEVILS ISLAND ERWIN) but it took a lot of requests before a fisherman agreed only to 30mins there.

Dangerous? The currents surrounding it can be, but that's probably it. The reason you can't go on it now is because it's a government installation— it's a missile tracking station. It tracks the EU's Ariane rocket, which is launched from the Kourou naval base and lofts satellites into orbit. Kourou, BTW, was the site of a feared labor camp in the colonial days.
