This is actually a Liverpool folk ballad first
heard in 1885 and sung by a Scouser on board ship and American bound. It was taken down by Dick Maitland and is part of the rich genre of Liverpool folk music.

Absolutely the best singer in any Irish song is Tommy M. He just gives me the chills when he is singing this. Many times we played this one at home. It brings back lots of memories. Just love this song.
