Stephane Wrembel, The Django Experiment

BIO
One could call Stephane Wrembel a Nomad, a Gypsy, a World Traveler, for the music he plays and his lifestyle are
very expressive of the Gypsy way of life. Born in Paris and raised in Fontainebleau (home of impressionism and
Django Reinhardt's music), classically trained starting at age four, Stephane's life took a decisive turn in his late
teens when he first discovered Django's music and the Gypsies. He spent ten years of his life learning, playing,
and expanding this tradition. This very hard work gave him the technique, but the time spent playing around campfires
and trailers gave him the soul (both necessary ingredients for him to master this art form).

After studying Contemporary Jazz, Indian, African and Middle Eastern music at
Berklee College of Music, he moved to New York City. The unlimited amount of music, incredible musicians and the
jungle lifestyle gave him an edge and set him in the direction he's now taking.
Like New York, he's always in motion, always searching and never stopping in his quest for a new sound...

Stephane tours in quartet format, with two guitars, bass and percussion.
If you love Django, African grooves, Middle Eastern colors, or Indian moods...
all played with a breathtaking level of energy...
you'll love Stephane Wrembel's music!

  • anyone know the name of the song that he's playing after he says "Indian colors, african colors"? the one whose clip starts with the upright bass solo?

  • liked the beginning of the last song very much ... but the rest was still amazing :)

thanks for playing this music! it makes me playing more and more... maybe someday i'll play with you somewhere =D=D

come to germany! we need your music here!!!!!

  • Stephane Wremble is my favorite gypsy guitarist, outside of Django, who is beyond compare. A player who has it all-chops, restraint, and most importantly, great soul. I wish you great success, playing in 'the jungle'.

  • what I always LOVE about Woody Allen movies is his excellent choice in music for the soundtracks. Vicky Cristina Barcelona is no exception, and you can hear it so clearly in this video - it's almost like hearing the theme being developed, OR , judging by the date - being modified into something new. What a gem, thanks for posting!

  • yay, great video
