@Chooman69 yes heating it up changes the metallurgical properties of the steel. Heating it up to cherry red changes the micro structure of the steel. If anything it did harden the steel, throwing some cold water on there would have helped. Also has he is bending the steel, he is causing plastic deformation, that too is hardening the steel but lowering ductility. lol its fun to watch, its even funner to do. have fun, im guessing its 1040 or so

500, does heating up the steel weaken the steel? Can you ever get it too hot? And did you have to pound the steel to get it to look the way it looked at the end of this video? Thanks.

yes , you can get some steel to hot , depends on what you got.
but it wont hurt anything to heat up the mild steel im using.
probably make it tougher if anything .

could have welded a dog ear on the top of that plate and park you fork lift in front there then hook a comealong to it to pull it down. Heat it from the back. Just a thought. Looks real nice though.
