  • Cool vid. One question though. I don't really want to waste my money on a load of washes, instead I'd prefer to by minatures or paints. So if I just bought one wash, which one would be best for all the colors? Is black good?

  • @nerfmarine17 Well as the video explains different colours will allow different effects. That being said the washes that most people find the most universal are black and brown. If you are using the GW paint range Devlan Mud and Badab Black would be my suggestions. If you are using another range just go for the black and darker brown.

  • Good video, will you do more basics videos? My biggest problem is "hard" highlights, they never look right.

  • @Anotherhack69 I am actually working on some new videos right now. Sorry it took me so long to respond, I haven't been active at all on YouTube the last few months, which I am planning on changing! As for 'hard highlights' I believe you are referring to manually layering highlights? If so then I will definitely be making a video on that since it is my favored technique in everyday painting!

  • Great presentation. But, definitely feeling like something is out of order with the video. I'd say you should've mentioned proper base coating with thinned paint over "out of pot" painting and putting priming with that video also before this one. Also, watch the tongue noises... like... the crackling sound... not sure how to describe it but it's the sound that's made when your tongue actually leaves the roof of your mouth in a certain way. But, overall, very informative and really well done.

  • @OverlordFxR As to the thinning of paints etc. that we will cover in a separate series of videos called 'Learn to Paint: Better'. I agree that the way to go is to use thinned down paints, on a pallet, even using mediums, but I didn't want to bombard new painters with too much info right away. Thanks for the feedback, I am trying to work on the wet-crackly noise, that's just my way of speaking i guess :s

  • Cool

  • @suicidehunter666 I was talking about making sure to use the wash entirely on the area you wish to wash. So don't only paint the wash over half a cloak for example. In one technique I was saying to cover the entire model with a brown or black wash, this was just a speed-painting technique though. Certainly you can use different washes on different areas, in fact this will likely yield a better result. Make sure one wash is 100% dry before moving on to the next one though! Good luck!

  • Question: I know you said to wash the entire model or else it would look weird, but what about using different colour washes for different areas? Like lets say you want to use a Blue wash to make your models cloak look nice, but you feel the blue would make their face look weird, would it make the model look bad if you washed the cloak in one colour, and used a separate colour for a different part of the model?

  • Yep, havent seen a good video about washes like this one around. Good work!

  • @OverlordFxR Fair enough Overlord. We do plan on making an entire series of these videos, and certainly plan on covering those aspects too. Once there are a few videos in the series we will create a playlist, which will take the viewer through the videos in the proper order (so viewers of the playlist will watch a video on assembly, followed by undercoat/base coating, then moving on to videos like this one).
