We were tempted to pop out to Vanderlin Rob - but I didn't trust the tinny we had available to us, so decided to stay local instead. If we'd had a slightly more trustworthy motor, I would have been pretty comfortable in going out to Centre island on at least 4 out of the 6 days we had available.
I'd definitely recommend a rising tide though - the mud banks out the front of the river are very hard to navigate. From VHF chatter, the fishing out in the bay was excellent; marlin/sailfish/cod/etc.
