I just asked because I wasn't sure if it was possible WITHOUT interlacing, because I didn't know if the playing field was generated only using the background or with objects as well.

I... I... I just didn't think that was possible on the VCS! Just the grid by itself!
By the way, is it possible to get the other on-screen objects to show up at the same time? Possibly with interlacing?

Wow... That looks great. Being that the 7800 was more powerful then the 2600, it makes me wonder how far to push the 7800. That's fantastic!

I was the one who suggested the people on the Atariage forums try and do this. Glad to see it coming along. :)
I'm known as Segataritensoftii on those forums.

For those of you not familiar with this, this is a homebrew Atari 2600 game that replicates the game "BallBlazer" for the Atari 8-bit computers, 5200, and 7800. This game was known as the gold standard for system power. To make it run on a 2600 is nothing short of amazing.
The game is still work in progress, but it should be possible to get a homebrew cartridge when it's done. Kudos to Roland for an AWESOME job!
This video is a little bit out of date. The programmer has released a newer binary that has the players on the screen. I think he opted out on the interlacing because it creates a combing effect.
