I've seen the film and it is compelling. This sweet plastic-tone voice over, does not not give this film justice.

this is one of my favorite all time movies...because it is true and has elements of humanity all over it... we are all Lyman in some ways; we are all each of the boys in some ways...

I know the investigators. They didn't decline to be interviewed. One of them was in fact interviewed and the documentarians showed him for all of 40 seconds and huge in frame. The documentary film makers were less concerned with the innocence or guilt of Adelbert and more concerned with how the family and town responded.
I didn't say Adelbert should have been incarcerated. I just said I think based on documentary there's evidence to support conclusion he killed William.

@mapscannotcontainme Been in the business a long time and I can assure you it's not a matter of "he said". The fact is, at least in the state of CA, these types of confessions are worthless. The man was mentally retarded. These days this wouldn't fly in any courtroom unless the object would be to place him in state care.

@dadsgirl0423 EXCUSE ME HIS IQ WAS 64.
-
@mapscannotcontainme I KNOW THIS FAMILY PERSONALLY DO YOU? DELBERT'S IQ WAS 68, MENTALLY RETARDED IS 70. TELL ME WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU? DO YOU REALLY BELIEVE THIS MAN KNEW WHAT HE WAS SIGNING? THE NYS POLICE, TOLD HIM IF HE SIGNED IT HE COULD GO HOME. THEY DIDN'T QUESTION THE INVESTIGATORS BECAUSE THEY DECLINED THE INTERVIEW. WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU? I HOPE THEY GET WHAT THEY DESERVE FOR WHAT THEY DID TO THIS FAMILY.

Both Lyman and Adelbert signed statements acknowledging they discussed killing William and Adelbert admitted he killed him and allegedly showed them how he did. I've watched the documentary a few times now and regardless of what Adelbert's defense attorney says. You're buying into the drama. The police did their job and weren't out to railroad some poor, mentally deficient farmer. Notice how they hardly questioned the investigators in the documentary?
-
@mapscannotcontainme THEY DIDN'T?????????? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? THE HELL THEY DIDN'T. THE NYS POLICE KNEW THAT MAN COULD BARELY READ AND WRITE AND THEY COERCED HIM INTO SIGNING A CONFESSION. DELBERT'S DEFENSE ATTORNEY WAS EVEN SHOCKED AT WHAT THEY DID. MAYBE YOU SHOULD GO BACK AND LISTEN AGAIN. THEY KNEW EXACLTY WHAT THEY WERE DOING AND SHOULD BE ASHAMED.

The NYS Police didn't do anything obviously wrong as I saw it portrayed in the documentary. In my opinion the case comes down to he-said, he-said regarding confession statements. I think it was likely a mercy killing. Both Adelbert & Lyman were alleged to have signed statements acknowledging Adelbert suffocated William to end his suffering, but with Roscoe & defense att. coaching them, statements retracted. Don't think Adelbert shouldve served time, but he prolly did it IMO.

@renee2167 COULD I BE MORE IGONORANT? YOU SHOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE BY OPENING UP YOUR UNEDUCATED, BIG MOUTH. YOU ARE MORE IGNORANT THAN THESE MEN COULD EVER BE. YOU BRING MORE DISGRACE TO THIS TOWN THAN THESE MEN COULD EVER. WHAT A LOWLIFE PIECE OF TRASH YOU ARE.

This video is a joke, anyone who wants to believe that's how Munnsville and Madison County really are is no better than the hicks they show in this movie. That is not what real Munnsville is.

@dadsgirl0423 Could you be anymore fucking ignorant? You shouldn't be proud of the way they portray people like that. They picked the most backwoods people they could find for this documentary so they could make us seem like dumb country folk. The Ward boys bring disgrace to Madison County and its unfortunate because there is a lot of intelligent people from that town.
Anyone know how are the old brothers are doing these days? Hope the last few years have been kind to them. Loved the film.
