  • @anthonyd5189 Your allowed to run studded tires in pa. I believe there are other states too. I don't see why the wouldn't allow you to run studded tires in a state Michigan. I'm sure they cause more damage to the road than non studded tires but they are so much safer on ice covered roads.

  • @mtohlen Ah, I didn't know that. ND should make them legal during the winter. They don't know what a snowplow is.

  • @anthonyd5189 Idaho allows studded tires during certain months.

  • Did you guys need press passes to get back to these two stages? We opted to head elsewhere to avoid getting turned away, but would like to check these spots out next year.

  • It looked pretty good, in terms of traction, despite the ice. Winter tires for the win!

  • @fastfox23 pretty much what @Flaheat said. Studded tires aren't street legal. Cars participating in events have to pass tech AND be street legal in order to race. I can't think of any states that allow studded tires on public roads, which could explain why they just put it in the rules(if it's there).

  • @uncanesciolto I didn't say they weren't "skilled at all", but it takes more concentration and focus to drive on tires without studs. Putting words in my mouth...

  • @fastfox23

Nothing to do with Rally America, it's because studded snow tires are illegal in Michigan, so they can't use them on the roads between stages.

  • @uncanesciolto Rally America has decided to not allow studded tires, I think it's more to do with evening the field than making it "up to driver skill". There is only 1 snow/ice rally each year, SnoDrift, and instead of making people choose between being uncompetitive or spending the money on studded tires, they just say no one can run 'em. That just keeps people with the deeper pockets from REALLY running away with it.

Or maybe it was just an arbitrary decision...

  • @TXs14 yes sure, in fact in the wrc drivers who have been using studded tyres on snow for ages aren't skilled at all..people like juha kankkunen, carlos sainz, didier auriol, tommi makinen, sebastien loeb..oh please ._.
