This is what I have been doing for the past month. I couldn't find a Valiant made by someone else so I decided to create my first complete 3D model ship. It's based on the image of the S.S. Valiant in the Star Trek Chronology, which is a physical model built by Star Trek model maker Greg Jein. The ship's fate is spoken of in the second TOS pilot "Where No Man Has Gone Before", where the vessel's disaster beacon is recovered by the Enterprise. During the building of the model I discovered on Doug Drexler's blog that there are other images of the Valiant model, but I decided against replicating that design to the last detail and rather made my own ship, while sticking to the general shape of the Jein model. This has been a learning curve and I'm sure an experienced 3D model maker could do a simple design like this in a day. I just have to add some interiors inside the windows to give nice sense of realism. The model will feature in a video at some point in the future about the mission of the Valiant, launched from Earth in 2065.

  • I always thought that the S.S. Valiant was just one of the NX series of warp 5 ships depicted in ST: Enterprise. The period would be about the same time.

  • @DBro65

Actually no. The Valiant is a far earlier and more primitive ship launched in 2065, within a few years of the first human warp flight while Enterprise is set in the 2150s. To me, ST Enterprise is barely canon anyway...

  • What did you use, 3ds max?

  • Nicely done..Ya know,t he Valiant kinda looks like the Conestoga, from that ENterprise episode "Terra Nova"

  • @Quisquellano26

Apparently the design was influenced by the Valiant and I had a few pics of the Contestoga for reference. The navigational deflector on my model is based on the Contestoga's.

  • I look forward to seeing the Valiant in action.

  • Looks awesome! Love it.

  • @VideoSpaceFX I wouldn't say "barely" canon. the show made some mistakes at we were going to see them no matter what and heck they tried their best (when one looks at the new movie enterprise was a god send for trekies) but hey the show just was lazey in it's stories. Also do you know of the TAS episode with the Kazinti? Sulu said they had a war wityh them 200 years ago (so right after first contact) that would be after first cntact and would look awsome on your channel

  • Excellent work. I've done some 3D modelling, but usually don't have the patience, so I know what's involved. Looks great. No bad edges or flaws that I could see. Dare I say, a valiant effort, pun intended :D

I really like the old designs that look somewhere between current technology and Trek technology. It shows progression from here to there. I wished they'd gone more that route with Enterprise, but I agree that it barely counts as canon :)

  • Gorgeous work, absolutely love the model :)

  • Very cool mate !!!
