Here I'll demonstrate just one method you can use 3D-Coat to apply textures to a hard surface model. This model, a jet called the Firehawk, is from the iPhone game "Hamster Vice: The Roach Wars" which will be out fall 2009.

.3b is the format 3D-Coat uses to save 3d models. The answer to your question is that you use 3D-Coat to make .3b files.
