While many medical facilities have made great strides to purchase equipment, most have little support for evidence of a paper trail in their facilities to protect should litigation result from a patient handling injury.

IS YOUR FACILITY PREPARED?

- Scenario-
A state investigator or attorney takes a deposition from a staff member regarding a failed patient transfer.
"What specific training or evidence of training has you or your staff had in performing the transfer of obese patients?"

Our Safe Patient Handling Programs put the "Paper Trail" in place and is intended to meet specific legislation requirements pending in Congress (Senate Bill SR 1788 and House Bill HR2381. This event has been very successful in bringing Lift Free Training to as many as 300 employees in a single day format. Each Employee will be offered an opportunity to sign a Lift Free Zone policy statement. The overall goal is to achieve evidence that a paper trail for Safe Patient Handling has been established for that facility. We include five basic techniques include items all authored by Mr. Michael Dionne: Rolling, Boosting, Scooting, Sit to Stand, and Belt & Hammock Technique, Twist Grip and Dionne's Egress Test. Patients who require assist should be mechanically mobilized. The facility's educational staff will monitor registration during the conference and participants are cycled in a timely manner throughout the 12 hours. This program is a nursing education favorite.

Mr. Dionne is creator and author of the book: Among Giants: Courageous Stories of those who are Obese and those who care for them, Dionne's Egress Test, The Advanced Mobility DVD Set, The Bariatric Safety Kit, the Transfer Matrix and who created many manual techniques that are changing the way professionals learn and teach therapeutic movement. Michael Dionne has written extensively about predictive mobility patterns based upon mass distribution and techniques to assist those who care for the Patient of Size. He has lectured throughout Australia, Asia, Europe and North America; presenting at many national and international conferences on safe patient handling, body mechanics and the many manual handling techniques presented here.
