@munchkiecocoa Good points made in your post. Also, though nobody was aware of it, including Jerry, the effects of pugilistic dementia that eventually took his life at an early age were almost certainly in play by '74 and it showed in the fight with Alexander. Quarry's timing was way off in that match and was even worse in the subsequent fights against Norton and Frazier. Sadly, the same wretched disease took the life of his brother Mike - also at an early age.

Joe Alexander probably never landed a harder punch than that left hook.

Man that's on giant punch on Jerry Quarry, how the hell did he get up from that punch man?? ,Jerry had some major balls. He just don't quit man.
Like they say" there's no quit in a quarry"

Classic awesome skilled badassed Quarry.RIP J.

The flurry that knocked Alexander out was ridiculous. I'm surprised Alexander was able to get up to one knee.

It was a legit knockdown because a punch landed, but go back & watch the slomo @1:25. Quarry wasn't hurt, he immediately threw a counter-left hook AFTER being hit. The momentum of his hook got him off balance & he tried to recover, but his feet slid out from under him. Quarry wasn't hurt, but Alexander thought he was, and then mixed it up with him. Turned out to be a big mistake, as Quarry was the superior fighter & puncher. And Jerry Quarry was a great finisher; if he hurt you, he stopped you!

Wow- great fight- Thanks for posting!

If you watch the slow motion replay after Alexander lands his left hook that dropped Quarry Jerry threw and almost landed a text book left hook of his own.That is why Quarry was considered one of the best counter punchers in the heavyweight division.

@flapperhead Quarry not only put his up as he was falling but almost landed a counter left hook as he was headed for the canvas.

@flapperhead Indeed, what a jaw.
@1899sharkey I agree. The mainstream does not realize how good Quarry actually looked in his first fight with Frazier, and that if it were not for the cut he suffered, he would have gone the distance with Frazier and given him eight more rounds of toe-to-toe warfare. By 1974, Jerry knew he wasn't going to get a title match from Foreman and he became bored and his skills just weren't the same. Frazier and Norton knew that; hence offering Jerry fights then and not in the earlier 70s.
