Artist Jill Sacalis Turndorf demonstrates ostrich egg dying with stop-motion photography, The techniqueused is a wax-resist method, using the tools of the traditional Ukrainian method of dying, also known as Pysanky. Jill's designs, however, are not specific to any region or country. The design of this egg is not a traditional Ukrainian egg design.

  • This egg took the better part of a week. Stop motion for this egg took most of the time. The egg had to be lifted from the holder, the mark in bees wax made, and the egg placed back in the holder as close to where it was before. Then the photo was snapped, and the process repeated. There are close to 700 photos to make this stop motion video. This ostrich egg is only decorated on one side.

  • WOW...this is amazing!!

  • This is beyond cool. The egg had to take a really long time without the stop motion. Really fun to watch.
