Los Angeles voice actor and impressionist Jeff McNeal heads back to the Summer of LOVE, where front man Arthur Lee had one epic hit with this song in 1966, penned by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. From what I've read, Bacharach didn't like it because LOVE made some chord changes to the song, which frankly, I like a WHOLE lot better than the Manfred Mann version on the "What's New Pussycat" album. No offense, Burt. An old friend of mine posted the original of this one on Facebook tonight and I thought "heeyyyyyy!!!" I've always loved this song and why I never thought of covering this one before sort of boggles my mind. So without any further adieu, I add a brand new artist to my impression roster - and I hope you like it! Apparently, the original that I am covering, was itself, a cover, and although it was a hit in Southern California where I live, it only reached #52 on the charts from what I've read, so perhaps this one won't be as familiar to many as some of the other covers I've done. Cheers.

  • Great job kid! Perfect range for you! I'll share it with Nick and Chuck.

  • @Cyberella1000 Thanks, Linda!!

  • Hard to believe this song was written by Burt Bacharach. Great song and really like Love's version.

  • @tinman3012 Bacharach couldn't quite believe it either, from what I've read. He didn't like that LOVE changed the chords to the song. But personally, I think this was THE definitive version of the song.

  • Fantastic for on the fly ~ fun & I agree with your assessment I love Manfred Mann but never got that version. Funny when the covers become the hits we all know & love. & this song only charted at #52?! But it was on like all the time everywhere & everyone was doing it in their garages/basements. Well anyway your impression is great as always, I think Arthur Lee would agree. Forever ~ LOVE! Forever Changes.

  • @mythtree Thanks for the kind words! Yeah, I checked Joel Whitburn and the song peaked at #52 on April 30, 1966. Like so many other songs and movies, I think it was under appreciated at the time, but gained a certain cult status over the years. I'm glad it did. I still love this song. Hard to believe I was six-years-old when I first heard it, though. Ha ha ha.
