This is a 1980`s Electricity Board Special Washing Machine, the Electra AWB665, made by Phillips in Hipperholme, Halifax,UK. Very popular machines featuring a Polypropelyne outer Drum and a Permanant Magnet Motor (Permag) which at the time had 10yr guarantees...!!!

This model takes a 9lb load & has an 800rpm variable spin speed. its other unique feature was that it started to spin with the tub full of water...this cushioned the clothes and distributed them evenly around the drum, the motor used permanant magnets instead of brushes etc was about half the size of other motors produced at that time.

  • thats awesome you can adjust the speed of the spinning!

You can do on this, not sure it would do the machine good all the the time but its a unique feature!! and the little magnet motor just copes fine!!

  • this machine is the best that I see in all of my life, because have the option of regulate the spin in your rpm favourites.

Phillips where one of the best independant washers of the 70`s / 80`s, IMHO..!!!plenty of new & different features!! 10yr guarantee on the motor & polypropylene drum, unheard of before!!

  • My mother had one of those, from our SEEBOARD shop, and very good it was too.The permag motor was made by "Polymotor Italia" from memory, and had brushes, though no field windings of course.Nice to see one well cared - for and going strong.I'd to change the motor once after many years' use,and the door catch too, with a metal, rather than the original plastic one.

  • The machines in laundrettes did this... Mostly still full of sudds somore dramatic looking.
