Really fun to hear this. She really was without peer in fast coloratura singing.
Purists would be mortified at this performance practice, but this was a different time, and a lot of things were allowed, suggested if not encouraged.
The old joke at the time was Sills could have booked a theatre, and sung the phone book for an evening, and packed the house in!
I sure miss her.

Brava, Beverly! Yes, a mezzo I know takes this on (or has) Vivica Genaux has been known to tack this on when the tenor isn't up to the task! (frequently:)

Thank you so much coloraturafan for that rarity!. Same aria but for soprano in "le nozze de Teti, e di Peleo" 1816. Sills in great form for 1974...The bad year!

most who sing this are sing the Non piu mesta from La Cenerentola not this, Rossini borrowed as was his custom

Questa non è più opera, ma circo!

So did she just sing the cabaletta? Really odd performance practice -- bet ya anything that this was the only time a soprano has ever taken this piece. Impressively sung, though. Thanks for posting such a rarity, coloraturafan!
Brava Sills~!
...I didn't kno sopranos sang this aria I thought it was written for a tenor? what would happen if the tenor sang non temer d'un basso? I love Sill's rendition, but...wasn't it written for a man? ( my 2cents/ opinion/question/?)

@magicmonkichi Yes, this is an odd performance, in the respect that the aria was sung by the tenor (Bruce Brewer), in some very high flying head voice, while the cabaletta is sung by Sills. To my knowledge other sopranos have sung the aria, and I want to also say some mezzos have... maybe Horne? I'm not sure anymore.
