We got a new budgie from our local animal shelter. Grobi was kept in a small cage without any budgie partners or free flight for 5 years. Watch him meet our other budgies and explore his new home.

  • So parakeets are able to be trained for free flight?

  • What do you mean? The budgies just need to know where the windows are (I put post-its on the windows for about 2 weeks, after that time they normally know where the windows are), if the learned that they just need to build up their flight muscles and then they will probably become very skilled free-flying birds.

  • Ohhh. I wanted to know if you could train them to fly outside on your command and make them come back?

  • No, I wouldn't dare to do that. They would probably like to come back, but I don't think they'd find the way :). And also, there might be some birds of prey which would like to eat one of these yummy colorful little snacks.

  • No sound?

  • This is the best video on youtube! im a huge bird lover so i find your birds very cute anyway, but the story that goes with it is so heartwarming. Im delighted Grobi has such a lovely new home, and a lovely new mate. He must have thought all his birthdays had come at once! Such a contrast to his old life. Keep up the good work my friend.

  • Good Point

  • Yes, Nessie is the blue female budgie beside him. Grobi is doing extremely well, I guess he's already forgotten all about his lonely life before he got here. He and Nessie are still a cute couple.

  • and nessie, im guessing is the blue one that is always beside him in the video?

  • Oh yes, he does. He is one of the most active birds in our flock today and flies almost all day long. And he is very happy with his female budgie partner Nessie.
