This how to video will show you how to rebuild a bypass shock or coilover shock used on prerunners. We use a King 2.5 2 Tube Bypass Shock. If you have a prerunner that uses coilover shocks or bypass shocks, this video will show you how to rebuild them.

  • How much Nitrogen do you re-fill with? Until the shaft is all the way out?

  • @The64twins About 150-200 psi is the general rule of thumb

  • Should the shaft on my racerunner 2.5 8" coilovers go all the way in the body? Mine seems to stop about 3/16" to 1/4" inch from full compression.

  • @DJTONER1 I don't think you want it to fully compress. Shocks don't make good bumpstops. I haven't opened up a Race Runner shock before.

  • Question.

I just bought an icon setup from a buddy that went long travel.

I accidentally twisted the res on the piggyback while cleaning the shock and needless to say, I lost pressure and a little bit of oil.

Can I just recharge the shock with nitrogen or should I send it in and rebuild it?

    Thanks

  • @TheMadRaver That's a hard one to answer without seeing it. It sounds like it needs a rebuild.

  • @prerunnermaniac I know that i was just compressing it after i put on some 90 degree fittings on them

  • @ovrebo1 That is actually not a bad price when you consider the shaft replacement. Glad this video helped you!!!

  • Man, that looks super simple. I'm definitely not afraid to tackle taking a shock apart now, nor will I ever pay someone to work on my shocks again. I paid King like $150 to replace a shaft and seals once. Never again!

  • It should be but since we haven't opened up a Race Runner I can't be for sure.
