One last Look (Firefighting art)

I wrote this tone poem in 1998. It was in memory of the summer I spent as a fire lookout for the United States Forest Service. From my 100 foot tower I could see right down into Kings Canyon National Park. My last evening on duty I remembered how the cold wind blew the tower back & forth. The heater blew out and I froze there all alone till the morning sun came up. I loved that tower and all the sunsets and thunderstorms I got to enjoy up-close.

The song is from our Black Irish Bands 17th Cd featuring Michael Martin Murphey. Band member Steve McArthur performed on piano while the rest of us backed him up. The CD "Into the Fire" can be found at CD BABY just type in black irish band.

Wow this is a really nice video! I like the song, and of course the paintings are beautiful. We actually have two autographed prints of your paintings, my dad is a correctional officer who goes out on the fires with the inmate crews in the summer, so they were gifts for him many years ago. I just looked more closely at them and realized they are your artwork. Beautiful!
