This video demonstrates a bug in iMovie 1.1 for iOS 4.1 -- both products were released today. The bug happens when you trim both the beginning and end of a single video clip. When you trim just the beginning, everything works. If you trim just the end, everything works. But if you trim both beginning and end, the frame display for the end trim -- and the clip start point and duration -- get confused, and the app behaves erratically. The video demonstrates this with a simple 10 second clip of a stopwatch running.
The technical issue is clear: start trim is not accounted for when trimming the end of the clip, resulting in a bad frame display during trimming, bad playback, and bad clip re-editing.
This is a basic programming error, and it is surprising that such a bug should have been released in an Apple application. This bug was in iMovie 1.0 as well as 1.1 released with iOS 4.1. I guess no one tested trimming a clip? Seems strange.
This video is unedited and was shot with a Panasonic LX3.
