The historical reality that makes this affair unlikely (/ hyper kinky) is that Queen Elizabeth was both Essex's maternal grandmother's first cousin (they daughters of the Boleyn sisters Anne and Mary) and half sister (their father King Henry 8th). Thus, QE1 was Essex's half great aunt. Then again, the queen had hated Essex's mother Lettice Knollys for her marriage to the queen's age peer and first great love Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester. So stealing Lettice's son would be a poetic revenge.
