When I do the plasma/rocket launch I am going through a gap between the invisible barriers, not going through one of them. Think of the gap as a "V" shape. When I jump back in towards the end, you see me bump it. The launch isn't easy and you have to time it pretty well to get high enough. Remember, you're going OVER the barrier, not through it.
