This video is a demonstration of the Digitech's ability to use recorded music to follow the harmonies. I received a question on my site about whether the Digitech could use pre-recorded music to follow the harmonies. This experiment was done to find an answer. I recorded a guitar and bass track (in mono)on my home computer studio (Magix Studio) using a condenser mic. Then I played it back using a 1/4" jack from the computer to the DTL 4 effects unit. The end result is that the effect follows the recorded tracks for guiding the harmonies, while I sing and play along live. Thanks for the question. Keep watching & feel free to post comments, suggestions & questions! AND PLEASE REMEMBER TO RATE!!! Ciao tutti.

  • Nice man, I like it how you've used the recording for your vocal.

    Fantastic song choice too!

    Cheers

    Simon

  • Thank you for commenting, and thank you for all the videos you've posted with Marc Cooper. Be sure to ccheck out my friend Luca Repetto at his channel "lucarepe" for his new video and song! Take care my friend.

  • I think the delayed vocals is because the Vocalist can't make out the guitar chord when you finger pick. If you just strum the basic chord progression, the vocals sound better - i.e. you kind of need two people playing to fully accomplish the vocal effect. But it is an amazing device and you sound really good.

  • Thank you for watching & commenting. You're right. Two guitars and voices are the answer. One guitar and voice? This little trick does help! Thanks.

  • It sounds as if your having to wait for it to catch up?????

  • You're right! Great ears! This was the first experiment with recorded music. Most of these videos I post are not only for demonstrating the effect, but also looking for the advice of other musicians to help me. Thank you for commenting. Michael

  • Very helpful I'm picking up a VL4 this Friday and your videos are making it less scary. I'll be using the Fishman Aura Spectrum DI pedal with it. Oh the comments about timing, I go back and forth between flat picking and finger picking. Peterson makes a body beat metronome I'm thinking of trying, it clips on your cloths and you feel it and no one hears it, I just get all folky, but my timing needs to be better, maybe there's a demo for that on YouTube LOL...Also drink pineapple juice at room te

  • this guitar has beutifull bass

  • U need a metronome

  • This is the best harmony I've heard online for this product. I am about to purchase the TC Voicelive2 but would settle for Digitech's has dedicated effects just for guitar built in this unit.

  • The other benefit of using the VL4 in this manner is that you don't have to have the harmony coming back at you through the monitor (fold back) and putting you off. You can just have the 4 vocalists coming through as normal and the VL4 just coming out of the FOH.

  • This way, the guitarist doesn't have to worry about if & when to press it, I have full control of the VL4's harmony from the console, all I do is turn up channel 5 as & when extra harmony vocals are required. Also, I can set the harmony channel's eq different to the main vocalists eq, using it this way makes the harmony sound more natural as apposed to a boxy or processed sound.

  • The VL4 is a really good piece of kit if used in the right context. I use this with my fathers band that I do sound for, I use a splitter on the main microphone, one XLR lead goes to the VL4, out of the VL4 and to channel 5 on the console. The other XLR goes straight from the mic to channel 4 on the console.

I then set the VL4 as follows, turn the mic level to off (0), guitar level to off (0) and the harmony level to about quarter past, I switch the harmony to permanantl on.

  • Stop trying to sound so professional... it's annoying..

  • I was wondering if you can use a keyboard since I play keyboards. I don't play a guitar, so if you can answer this question before I purchase this unit.
