@fxmah Thanks for the answer :) I have used the Free Transform tool before... don't you just have to right click on the photo for that option to pop up?

i have photoshop elements 8 i held down Ctrl T and shift to enlarge teh photo instead i flipped it. any reason why i did have layere selected and such and nothing -_-

@TheMechn Type Cmd (mac) or Cntl (pc) T to activate the Transform for the layer. Then, hold down *only* the Shift key, click and drag on one of the corner points to restrain a resize. I don't know how you flipped the image, I was not able to recreate that behavior.

i did the overlay....not sure what you mean by "blend mode"? my pic is still stuck at the gray stage! cant seem to get it back to the orig.???

@ierickyp Select the gray layer in the layer palette... There's a dropdown menu at the top left of the layer palette (which usually has "Normal" showing.) Drop the menu down and select "Overlay". Those selections in that dropdown are several different kinds of "blend modes" (Normal means "No Blend"). You can use the Opacity and Fill controls to control how much blending is done. PS - when you select "Overlay", it will appear as the original image has reappeared (only "sharper").

If the layer you are trying to work on became unselected, then Ctrl-T (Cmd-T on macs) will not work. Ctrl/Cmd-T is the shortcut for the "Free Transform" tool which can also be found under the Edit menu. You must have a layer with some kind of content selected in order to be able to use the Free Transform tool; otherwise, an error alert warning that the area is empty will appear (if a layer is selected) or the tool menu item will be disabled if no layers are selected.
