This tutorial is about making the Eqyptian rhythm 'Malfuf' sound more dynamic. By choosing new tones and leaving some space in the right spots we have a much more colourful and dynamic sounding rhythm. Although this video is aimed at the darbuka, doumbek, tablah etc the same rule can be applied to any drum and any rhythm of course.
The next video i will upload will be about ornamentation in Malfuf ie; decorating the rhythm! This is the fun part and allows the player to use some of that flashy technique that they have been practicing. Hope you enjoy and feel free to contact me through my channel. )))
I am the darbuka player with The Melbourne/Istanbul Kolektiv.

  • @pacerman265 Hi Can you tell me where i can find a darbuka like this?? I wanted a gawharet el fan but it's very expensive and i saw your comment so i asked you! Thanks!

  • loved it. so awesomely clear in terms of explanation - and, importantly - all in excellent taste. I'll try some of this on my bongos-- but I'm sorely tempted to buy a doumbek.
