  • The beacon atop the War Memorial on Dundee's Law hill ( an extinct volcano 571ft high) remains lit for every second of the 25th day of September every year in silent tribute to the men of Dundee who made the ultimate sacrifice in the Battle of Loos.

    R.I.P.

    Never Forgotten

  • A great great uncle of mine is buried there also,

Hugh Sweeney, 6th Battalion Royal Irish Regiment, June 27th 1916. He was from Derry and the family say he lied about his age as so many others did, so that he could enlist. Tragic waste of young lives.

  • Thank you so much from NZ, for taking the time to post this, probably the only hope I ever have of seeing his last resting place.

My great uncle lies there too.

    Pvte Eugene Flatres.

    6th Battalion Royal Irish Regiment

    17th June 1916.

    From the island of Guernsey.

    Lest we forget !!

  • yes , thank you again my great uncle , private clarence seagrave hussellbee of the black watch , also perished here , on 25/09/1915

  • Thanks for posting. My great grandfather was killed during this battle on 17/10/1915
