PLAYLIST samples the new rock rhythms of Pakistan a country with diverse musical tastes, from Asian folk, to Persian pop, and, of course, traditional Arabic sounds. But behind the booming pop and music video industry, youll find the Pakistani and Sufi rock scene, where legendary acts like Junoon, Aaroh, Mizraab and the Mekaal Hasan Band first combined western rock riffs with traditional folk and Sufi music in the early 1990s. And now a new wave of Pakistani rock fusion hits the airwaves.
