20 best sci-fi films

My 20 favourite science fiction films, I beleive I've seen most of the good ones, and some bad of course, so you probably can't change my mind about this. Except maybe with Gattaca.

@54markl I agree that it is not the best sci fi ever, possibly the best series of sci fi movies ever though. I wouldn't say "A new Hope" had much of a big production though, its budget was only 11 million if I remember correctly (considerably less than most films even back then). Whether you like Star Wars or not, you have to admit that George Lucas (for the original 3 atleast) managed to do a lot with what was, originally, a very small budget.

@TalentedToast Star Wars is a cultural icon and all that, I enjoy it to a certain extent. I just don't think it's the very best. But I'll grant you it's probably the most popular.

Some of the most popular things are the lowest common denominator. Sometimes I think people equate big productions with quality.

how is Clock work orange even a sci fi film? I read the book and it didn't seem remotely sci-fi... there was brainwashing, but that is a real thing...

Good list, I would've add "STALKER" and "Solaris".
