PCSX2 Beta-r1888 running Jak & Daxter: Precursor Legacy
Short clip demonstrating just how far this emulator has come over the years, recorded with fraps @1920x1200 8xAA forced via Nvidia Drivers with NO AUDIO (sorry boys, my raid array just isn't fast enough for 1920x1200x32@60hz yet)
Machine used to play this:
http://top10hardware.com/validate/Xaero
Issues with this game:
Gets choppy when there is a *LOT* on screen (much less with speedhacks on).
Couple of misc. texture glitches (eyeball stickers for certain characters in certain scenes are BLACK instead of textured, when running around periodically textures will flash splotched versions of themselves and then return to normal.
Other than the minor texture issues, when not running fraps, its 60fps with my rig and speedhacks just about through the whole game.

"Can my rig run this? How do I set this up?"
I know I'll probably get a billion of these even if this video never gets watched... heres a quick checklist:
1.) 2.0ghz (MINIMUM, I MEAN BARE MINIMUM, the more ghz the better.)
2.) Dual-Core (HT is okay I guess, but I would still say Dual-Core as a bare minimum, more cores will help)
3.) 2GB of Dual-Channel Memory (The dual-channel part more than the capacity part, obv triple channel will provide better performance)
4.) 7200+ RPM HDD
5.) 256mb Graphics card (GDDR2 as a minimum, GDDR3+ preferred, better the GPU the better)

if your PC meets those requirements (which aren't too steep, mind you) you should be able to at least run this stuff. (you can actually run it with less, but it won't be anywhere near playable)

As far as setting it up:
G O O G L E . C O M
IS YOUR FRIEND!!!!

  • 10 fucking years since the ps2 came out and my 1 year old £450 laptop won't play a fucking shitty ps2 game. WTF.

  • @h0wn0wbr0wnc0w95

Yes but a $450 laptop doesn't have a dedicated graphics processor. Also you seem to fail to understand exactly the details behind emulation; Your laptop is guaranteed to be leagues faster than the PS2, however it does not speak the same language the PS2 does, an emulator is like a translator, except your computer is doing the translating, and the interpreting all at the same time, it requires quite a lot of horsepower.

  • Why daxter hasn't got eyes?(sorry for my english)

  • @321darkeco123

Just a bug, these sorts of things take time to fix, this is on an older release, it may be fixed by now. Same with the shadow.

  • Sorry about the delay in replies, I have been out of the country;

The song is originally by Cafe Del Mar, titled "Energy 52" This is a remix by Deadmau5.

My settings are on my main pc, but as I can remember I used some speedhacks (play around with them, it takes some tweaking to get it stable & fast), and gs plugin was gsdx10, audio was enabled and worked fine while playing, but when introducing fraps into the mix there was too much disk usage =\.

  • @ZeroX252 how do i download this?

  • @h0wn0wbr0wnc0w95 so basically what you need is a laptop within a laptop kinda like running a car while your in a car

  • This video made my day

  • I have no idea how to use a PS2 emulator, so I'm stuck using a real PS2. Sucks because I wanted to make some model rips and I have no capture card or anything like that. Oh well.

  • @ZeroX252 well i bought a $1000 laptop and its all thanks to you my game worked

  • I want to play this SO bad on my laptop :( been trying for days but people in forums are telling me my processor isn't up to par...so depressing, I can play all my favorite N64 and PS1 games via emulators, but nothing for ps2...

  • Can anyone tell me what's the native (default) resolution for this game?

  • Have the shadow and texture issues been fixed since this video?

Wow... I remember back in like 2007-2008. Jak and Daxter was barely playable in PCSX2. All the textures were black, sub-10FPS across all systems, and constant crashes. Now this!

  • I was playing this on my laptop.. it seems to meet the minimum requirements however, the quality of the gameplay is very crappy and only works at about half speed..

  • PS2 is the best console.
