This was filmed in September of 2001, and in following the ensemble's tour, the date passed 9/11--to see how everyone reacts from the various countries in the group. They finally decided to choose some appropriate music for the suddenly solemn event. This is one of his best performances.

  • Sting wrote this song after hearing of John Lennon's murder. I will always associate this song with this performance, and the obviously tragic events of that day.

  • @Bryan8329 Thank you for the background information...

  • @Bryan8329 Not true. This is a direct quote taken from Stings website."A lot of people think 'Fragile' is some kind of ecological hymn, sort of 'fragile Earth',but it's not. The song was written about a man called Ben Linder who was an American Peace Corps worker in Nicaragua, who was shot by the contras. I thought there was a wonderful irony about this young idealistic American was shot by a US funded bunch of basic gangsters. And I basically wrote about that irony and that sadness."

  • @misterzoolander Have you seen the DVD of Sting "All This Time", filmed in Tuscany? I am not trying to vie with your need to be correct, but simply presented the events occurring when THIS performance took place. Thanks for the information...

  • HQ ????? 480p????and where at least 720p?, those with Pull yourself, and see what the HD quality

  • @jonnyfajf--I uploaded this directly from a DVD of Sting in Tuscany. YouTube did not have the headings of HD, 720, etc. Are you unhappy with the quality? HQ simply means High Quality resolution. Please compare it with anything you can find on Sting in HD to top the sound and image quality. Oh, you're welcome!

  • You would almost think that this was written about 9/11, but it obviously wasn't. What an amazing job Sting did on such a tragic day.

  • Awesome performance and great warm wise words from Sting on this horrible attack !

Thank you so much for sharing this very emotional live song ~ shivers all over me :)

  • who ever thought the openings these opening lines would ever fit the situation so perfectly. One on the most important moments in music history as a tool of expression and reflection.

  • The "Samba" time was a touch of style!

  • @misterzoolander Thanks for clarifying it for me. I posted this on my Facebook mostly because anything I feel I would have to say today would be pretty pointless, compared to music I could post instead

  • How fragile we are. but, we never yield to terrorism or a natural disaster.
