Here is a portfolio used to collect all of the work of one student for a single semester in an English class. Though there are other models, La Vergne Rosow encourages students to keep all drafts of their work, all handouts, and documentation of class activities in a single portfolio. That way whatever the student needs, there is not far to look for it. The multiple drafts allow the student to document her development over time. Before bringing a portfolio to the teacher for evaluation, the class has developed a rubric for assessment and all class members have used the rubric for at least one peer review. The score sheet also allows the student to grade herself before she even goes to the peer review. This process allows any student a chance to make a very good score. No surprises. Nothing new.
